We Believe in Katie, Inc., honors Katie's battle with cancer, promotes cancer research and strives to help those less fortunate.
We Believe in Katie, Inc., is a nonprofit organization that seeks to honor Katie Udelhofen-Clark's young life tragically cut short after a year long battle with leukemia. The goal of our work is to raise awareness and funds for blood cancer research at the Carbone Cancer Center, and support Make-A-Wish Wisconsin. These causes reflect the strength and dignity she so bravely exhibited throughout her year-long struggle with cancer and the values and principles she strove to live by.
To honor Katie's life and deepen her legacy a small group of her friends and family members planned a birthday celebration/fundraising event on April 28, 2017, what would have been Katie's 33rd birthday. Katie's Birthday Benefit was a fun-filled evening of food, music and silent auction providing a wonderful way to remember Katie, celebrate her life and "give back" to causes Katie believed in. Through the generosity of so many friends, family and businesses, we raised over $21,000.00. An amount that greatly exceeded everyone's expectations!
These funds made it possible to honor Katie's memory in two ways: a scholarship fund was established in Katie's name at Verona Area High School for a graduating senior. This scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior for the next 15 years. At the awards ceremony in May of last year Jenna Acker became for the first recipient of the Katie Udelhofen-Clark Scholarship.
Given Katie's warm heart and devotion to children, especially to those children who are struggling through no fault of their own, a donation was made to Make-A-Wish Wisconsin. This donation made it possible to send Ethan, an 11 year old boy with a life threatening seizure disorder, and his family to Walt Disney World. We granted his wish! Visit our recipients page to hear their stories.
Given this overwhelming and somewhat surprising successful first-year effort our committee decided to take our celebration/fundraising beyond a one-year event. A 501 (c)(3) has now been established in Katie's name to continue our work in Katie's memory. We Believe In Katie, Inc., is our new charitable non-profit organization.
